UNISON members in Higher Education will shortly be receiving ballot papers.
The national ballot runs from Friday 14 September to Thursday 25 October.
The Service Group Executive is recommending that members vote YES for strike action and that they reject the employers’ offer of 2% or £425 (whichever is greater).
- The offer is a real-terms pay cut as it does not keep up with inflation. Those at the bottom of the pay scale would receive the equivalent of 2.7% (£425), but this too is below the RPI inflation rate.
- We have had years of below inflation pay rises.
- Our pay claim was for much higher than the offer – 7.5% or £1,500 (whichever is greater) and a £10 an hour minimum wage.
- We want members’ pay to ‘catch up’ for the lost years.
Higher Education institutions are not cash-strapped organisations, and they pay the people at the top very handsomely.
Please make sure you and your colleagues vote in this important ballot.
And vote YES for strike action and a better deal for workers in HE.
