If you are interested in a course we are advertising but as yet there are no dates scheduled this means we are collecting names on a waiting list so that we can gauge demand before we advertise the course proper. To EXPRESS and INTEREST in one of these courses go to the course catalogue and click on the title – you’ll then be asked to send an email to one of the staff who will get back to you to discuss the course content and format.
Applicants for courses which have scheduled dates should complete an application form and have this authorised by their Branch Education Coordinator. Once a completed application is received in the Regional Learning and Organising unit an acknowledgement is sent to the applicant. Around two weeks prior to the course start date the applicant is sent joining instructions including
• Pre-course work
• A map and directions to the venue
• Session timings
• Guidance about what to do if you cannot attend
Funding course places:
Branches should allocate sufficient funds to ensure all applicants can attend appropriate UNISON learning events. It is the branch and not the individual applicant who is responsible for the payment of course registration fees and travelling expenses. Unless otherwise stated the course registration fees include all refreshments – usually mid morning and mid afternoon beverages and lunch. Branches are invoiced after the course for registration fees.
Non–attendance at courses:
From time to time a small minority of applicants do not turn up for the course and do not inform the Regional Learning and Organising unit beforehand. Because of the disruption caused by this practice, the region will charge branches for all applicants with a confirmed place on the course, unless we receive written notification that the applicant has withdrawn, five working days prior to the course start date. In the case of genuine emergencies where it is not possible to give five days notice the Regional Learning and Organising unit should be contacted without delay, leaving a message on 0161 661 6777 or email [email protected] followed by a confirmation letter from the branch within seven days of the course start date.
