Solidarity vigil no longer to take place this Sunday.
UNISON North West condemns the attack on a Jewish cemetery that took place last weekend in Whitefield. Media reports describe that a gravestone was vandalised and metal taps and pipes were stolen. Police are treating the incident as a hate crime.
UNISON wish to show solidarity with the Jewish community in the face of this mindless and upsetting attack. We had previously urged members to support a vigil organised by Stand Up to Racism. However we have received a request from the families involved that the vigil should not go ahead as they wish it to be a private family event. So we would ask our activists and members to respect their wishes and not to turn up this Sunday.
