The 1st July 2013 marks the 20th Anniversary of the formation of UNISON. In these difficult times of austerity, it is easy to feel overwhelmed and even question the relevance of what we do. So earlier this year the Campaign and Publicity Committee decided to produce this booklet to mark our first 20 years, not only as a timely reminder of what we have achieved but what is possible when we work together.
It was Aneurin Bevan who once said, “It will last as long as there are folk left with the faith to fight for it” about the NHS.
Well we are those good “folk”. We must protect our public services against the unprecedented attacks we now face. We must continue to defend the wronged and oppressed wherever they are.
In 2013 it is even more important that UNISON continues to build a strong and vibrant union, ready to defend our members and provide a voice for the most vulnerable in our society.
The Campaign and Publicity Committee hopes this booklet will not only give you a flavour of the work carried out in the first 20 years, but inspire you to help UNISON to continue to be strong and an even more influential union that makes a real difference to ordinary people’s lives.
