Time to Vote in HE Pay Ballot

UNISON is recommending members take strike action over pay after Higher Education employers refused to increase their offer of 1%. We believe that the money is there to fund a decent increase:

• in the North West, the average vice-chancellor’s remuneration package is over £250,000 a year.
• student numbers are up and cash surpluses in the sector are over £1bn;
• the English higher education funding body (HEFCE) reported in March 2013 that financial results are stronger than those previously projected in June 2012 despite a fall in public funding;

You can see what your vice-chancellor was paid in 2011-12 here:

Vice Chancellors’ Pay – North West

The money is there. The HE sector can afford to pay a living wage.
