Model Email to Branches Re: Skills For Strength 2016

Please help UNISON mobilise for Skills for Strength 2016 by copying and pasting the e-mail below, and distributing to branch activists (feel free to amend it as you wish).

Dear Colleague,

UNISON North West holds an annual organising convention with a programme of workshops and plenary sessions aimed at giving you the tools you need to win in the workplace and fact the challenges that lie ahead for our union. This year’s event is going to be held on Saturday, 12th March 2016 in central Manchester.

As a branch activist, we’d love to give you the opportunity to take part, learn from some of the fantastic line up of speakers and share ideas about how we can face the challenges of building UNISON in difficult times. You can register for a place free online at www.unisonnw.org/skillsforstrength, or download a registration form. You can also get a form from the branch.

The feedback from last year’s event was fantastic – here’s what some colleagues told us from branches across the North West:

“This has rekindled some of my original fervour and alacrity. Very good day”

“Brilliant speakers and workshops, the day had a great momentum”

“Please, please organise another convention. I’ll do my best to persuade others to attend”

“Really enjoyed it.  Good practical advice on becoming an organising union.  Less about recruitment - more about organising...”

“Excellent convention - a very successful pilot that should be built on.  Excellent workshops - speakers were quality and made you look at organising from different angles/different techniques.  Very well organised.”

“Good example of lay activists and staff working together on behalf of our members.  Well organised event.  All the speakers and workshop leaders worked well on the day.”

Tickets for the event are free, and you can claim travel expenses from the branch if you need to.

I hope you can join colleagues from across the region in March to discuss and learn from each other, alongside some leading campaigners in our movement, in preparation from the challenges which lie ahead.

Best wishes,

Branch Secretary
