UNISON members working for Future Direction CIC will stage a second round of industrial action this week over changes that have been made to their pay and conditions.  This 3 days strike beginning on Tuesday 18th June at 8 am, follows on from the 2 days action taken on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th June.

Rochdale UNISON Branch Secretary Helen Harrison said

“It has been a difficult decision to strike by workers, these 115 workers care deeply about the services they provide.  Many have worked with clients for a long time developing a relationship of trust and care.  They provide a vital service to vulnerable adults living in Rochdale.  They now face the prospect that they may lose their homes as a result of these drastic cuts, despite the fact that they are carrying on doing exactly the same job!”

Regional Organiser, Lizanne Devonport continued

“UNISON members are taking 3 days strike action to send a clear message to Future Directions CIC that they need to rethink what they are doing.  Our members should not have to suffer financial hardship and lesser terms and conditions because they took on a contract that they say they can’t deliver without the staff paying the cost.  Nearly 100 claims will be lodged at Employment Tribunal in defence of the employment rights of these people, who just want to carry on doing this important job for fair pay and conditions.”

Members taking part in the action will travel to Liverpool this week to visit the unions’ national conference which is being held there, and will receive messages of support from UNISON branches throughout the country
