RIP Linda Holden

It is with great sadness UNISON North West was made aware of the sudden and tragic passing of Linda Holden on 14th April. Linda was a long-standing UNISON Activist of over 30 years and the Branch Secretary at Manchester Metro University branch. She was also a member of the Higher Education Service Group Executive for over 10 years, holding the NW Region women’s seat and in recent years she was elected as a member of the New JNCHES pay negotiating team.

Linda's commitment, drive and passion to fight for fairness, improved terms and conditions and better pay for UNISON members was admirable. Her enthusiasm and excellent organising skills in the current pay dispute led to the branch achieving a successful ballot result and saw Linda strongly lead the way in three rounds of strike action totalling 7 days.

Linda supported hundreds of members on both an individual and collective basis and it was her resilient and determined approach that achieved many successes.

She will be greatly missed by members, the Branch Committee and UNISON colleagues both regionally and nationally.

Our thoughts are with her family at this very sad time.

Messages of condolences can be sent to the branch office on [email protected] where they will be passed onto her family.
