New Year's Resolution

A very Happy New Year to all UNISON Members in our North West Region. I hope you managed to get some kind of break and rest over the festive season and if you had to work, thank you and I hope your rest and period off work comes soon. Read more

Time for Action

As a Local Government Branch Secretary, Regional Convenor of the largest UNISON region and a council employee, I see every day the incredible work UNISON members, activists and staff do; not just to improve working lives of our members, but also the lives of those I see ‘professionally’ as a practising social worker who are without doubt the most vulnerable in our communities. No Return to Normal

Well we continue to live through strange and challenging times where so much has changed and yet so much stays the same: Tory sleaze, Tory allocation of contracts to party donors and ‘friends’, a pending pay freeze for public sector workers and the real threat to our NHS- all under the ongoing cover of Covid. Real Action in a Virtual World

We continue to live in bizarre times and you all continue to work in what must feel like ever-changing pressures. I am increasingly aware of members showing signs of Covid fatigue and, as a region, we are looking at ways this can be addressed. Sending strength, solidarity and thanks to our UNISON North West activists

Since I last wrote we have lost a true friend and comrade to our region- Jean Blevin. Jean was our Regional Treasurer and longstanding health activist known throughout our region and union. After a short battle, Jean fell victim to cancer in August and we have met regularly with her family, friends and colleagues. When the pandemic allows, we will properly remember the immense work Jean did for our region and union. Read more

COVID-19, Collective Voice and Our Region's Challenges

A very warm welcome to all UNISON North West activists on behalf of your new Regional Secretariat. Never has there been a greater need for our collective voice to be heard in and outside of our union. Read more

Coronavirus is the biggest challenge we’ve faced in decades- UNISON North West is meeting it head on

When I became Interim Regional Convenor at the end of last year, I did not expect that just a few months later we would be faced by a global pandemic- the consequences of which are colossal for our whole union. Coronavirus has made the turbulence of the last few years pale into insignificance by comparison.
