Regional Council Report

Maureen LeMarinel - Reg Council Oct 2013North West regional council met on Saturday 19 October 2013 at the Mechanics Institute and was addressed by UNISON National President Maureen Le Marinel.

Maureen is branch secretary at Lancashire Police and is the region’s first President since the union was formed in 1993.

She thanked North West branches for mobilising large numbers of members for the ‘Save the NHS’ demonstration at the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester on 29 September.

Maureen paid tribute to UNISON members at Future Directions at Rochdale who have taken 30 days strike action since May in defence of pay and conditions.

Andy Taylor, UNISON steward at Future Directions, updated Regional Council on recent developments in the dispute and received strong backing from delegates.

Regional council agreed next steps in the union’s campaign in defence of the NHS and backed a proposal from Liverpool branch for a regional demonstration against cuts in the funding of council services to be held early in 2014.
