At their meeting on the 14th May 2013, Regional Council passed a motion in support of UNISON members working as carers for Future Directions in Rochdale, who have voted overwhelmingly in favour of taking strike action over cuts to their pay and conditions.

The action, by 114 low paid UNISON members who support adults with disabilities, will take place on Saturday, 8th until Monday 10th June 2013. Future Directions took the contract on from Rochdale Council in October 2012, knowing that to make the contract viable they would need to save money. UNISON says it is wrong to make the savings by drastically slashing member’s pay.

A rally is to be held on the Butts in Rochdale Town Centre from 11 am to 12pm on Saturday 8th June 2013 and branches are invited to attend to show their support for these workers.

The Butts is a pedestrianised area and  can be found to the right of Rochdale Town.  Municipal parking is free in the Town Centre at weekends.

Branches can also send messages of support [email protected].  Donations to the strike fund can be made by cheques to Rochdale Unison, 46 Richard Street, Rochdale, OL11 1DU
