Westwood Homecare became the first of Stockport Council’s private homecare providers to sign a recognition agreement with UNISON.
UNISON Stockport Branch Secretary Angela Rayner signed the recognition agreement on behalf of UNISON alongside Westwood’s Director Marilyn Urmson.
Westwood Homecare already follow a number of practices outlined in UNISON’s Ethical Care Charter – including paying staff for travel time and ensuring care visits are scheduled for at least 30 minutes. UNISON looks forward to working with one of the Council’s key partners providing care to some of our community’s most vulnerable people.
The Branch is also campaigning for Stockport Council to sign up to our Ethical Care Charter so that all of their providers adopt these basic minimum standards of social care.
The signing of the historic recognition agreement follows a successful meeting between UNISON organisers and Westwood staff where all members of Westwood’s staff signed up to UNISON membership (see link below):

UNISON Stockport are eager to work with all providers of homecare in the area and would welcome any queries from homecare companies.
