UNISON, working with the TUC and Health Campaigns Together, celebrated the NHS’ 69th Birthday today (Wednesday 5 July).

Local UNISON reps, health campaigners and members of the public enjoyed birthday cake and sweets outside the main entrance at Royal Liverpool Hospital NHS Trust. The sun certainly shone for the NHS today as local people supported the NHS and staff by signing a giant birthday card which asked for fair and proper funding for NHS trusts and a lifting of the pay cap which has been in place for over seven years.

The birthday card now has hundreds of signatures and the TUC will arrange for the cards to be sent to local MPs to be delivered to the Prime Minister.

Even bigger celebrations will be held next year when the NHS reaches 70 years old.

Celebrations also took place at Aintree University Hospital Trust.
