Support Lake District National Park Workers

Staff who help keep visitors to the Lake District safe on the water and provide information about the fells are facing at least a 10% pay cut under proposals from their employer, the Lake District National Park Authority.  The Authority have now given an ultimatum to the staff that if they don’t accept a compromise offer which would still lead to reductions of over £800 in some cases, they will impose the cuts in full.

The staff have experienced several years of pay freezes and caps, and some already earn as little as £7.24 per hour – less than the living wage.

With property prices sky-high in the Lakes, staff invariably live outside the areas they work and struggle to be able to afford to travel to work.  It is feared that a further 10% cut will mean the Lake District could lose some of its experienced, knowledgeable and friendly staff.
