In a few short months, we successfully campaigned for 75% of North West councils to sign our Care Workers vs COVID-19 pledge. This meant that care workers would receive full pay if they needed to shield or self-isolate due to COVID. We also won pay rises to the real Living Wage for thousands of care workers.
We have achieved so much by standing together in our union. But now it's time to think bigger- we must transform how social care is provided and how care workers are treated forever.
That's why our Care Workers vs COVID-19 campaign has become the Stand Up For Social Care campaign.
As care workers, we have been at the forefront of the struggle against COVID-19. We have put ourselves at risk to provide care and support to vulnerable service users.
We appreciate the applause from members of the public, but unless social care receives proper investment and respect, we remain undervalued, underappreciated and underpaid.
To enable us to continue giving exceptional care, we need proper pay and decent conditions that properly reflect our position as key workers. We need action after the applause.
The pandemic has revealed the structural issues facing our social care system- and now it's time to tackle them.
Will you Stand Up For Social Care?
