Jeremy Corbyn took time to meet staff working at New Charter Housing whilst visiting Ashton-under-Lyne last week.  UNISON Tameside representatives at New Charter Simon Hogg and Janice Latreche got to ask him questions and told them about the ‘heart unions’ week which celebrates the fantastic work unions do.

Jeremy Corbyn told the New Charter reps that he had been a UNISON member himself for 43 years and continues to be a union member to this day.  Angela Rayner, Shadow Education Secretary and MP for Ashton-under-Lyne constituency was also a UNISON member and rep when she worked as a carer.

UNISON now has four representatives at New Charter Housing, two of whom have just successfully completed their training to become accredited.  Penny Macpherson, UNISON Representative said:

“I really enjoyed the training, I learnt so much, it was a real eye opener.  I can’t wait to get back to work now and support UNISON members in the challenges ahead.”
