All Roads Lead to Liverpool on Saturday 15 March

Babs Hennessy, UNISON’s Liverpool Branch Secretary, finds herself in the eye of the storm as the Government are forcing a staggering £156 million worth of cuts on her local council. She explains:

”Vital services like Day Centres, Homeless and Domestic Violence Hostels, Children’s Homes, Libraries, Sports Centres and more are under serious threat of closure. UNISON members met the news of the cuts with stunned silence or tears as they faced up to what this would mean for those who rely on the essential support they give every working day”.

Yet Babs is not one to sit around and wait for the coming deluge. She is making a stand, and urges you to join with her to shine a light on the true pain that these cuts will cause. She continues:

”It is partly about exposing the reckless vandalism of these savage, ideologically motivated cuts being imposed by the government. Also, to scrutinise line by line every proposal to mitigate the damage and to preserve services until relief can come, hopefully from a political change demanded by people all over Britain”.

She knows she is not alone and invites all in the same position to Join Her. UNISON members all over the North West are feeling the pain of unfair cuts as the most deprived areas suffer the most. She calls on you to bring your own stories to Liverpool for a massive show of opposition to these cuts on 15th March.

Please plan to come to the march, tell your work mates, friends and family. Let us make those responsible hear the genuine voice of communities across our region.
