UNISON North West hosted a full week of short courses for school support staff from 24-28 July. A total of 150 teaching assistants, learning support, admin support and midday supervisors enrolled onto a diverse range of workshops.

Feedback from participants was excellent.  Learner Jane commented, “I didn’t realise I would learn so much, outstanding tutor!”

There are plans to run many of the courses again.  The programme included sessions on:

  • Promoting Positive Behaviours
  • Supporting Maths in the Classroom
  • Polish language & culture
  • Autism Awareness
  • Mental Health Awareness
  • Dyslexia Awareness
  • Confidence and self esteem
  • British Sign Language
  • Managing conflict

The courses took place in a range of venues across the North West – in Preston, Manchester and Liverpool.
