    Dealing with Pupil Violence in Primary School, Liverpool 2019

    Part of our Schools Support Staff course offer, this half day session looks at de-escalating violent situations and how to recognise signs and signals that pre-empt a violent outburst from pupils with a focus specifically on PRIMARY school age children. Great for any TAs or schools support staff.

    Dementia Awareness

    This one day workshop is suited for people who work in the care or health sectors and with people with dementia as part of the daily lives, front line workers who often deal vulnerable people as part of their work or UNISON members who know someone who is suffering with dementia.

    In this one day workshop you will:

    • Get a general understanding of the experiences of people living with dementia and that of their family and carers
    • Learn the different types of dementia and the causes
    • Examine some strategies that may assist the individual and the their carer in the management of the condition
    • Gain understanding of the person-centred approach and the importance of effective communication in recognising, supporting and empowering the individual

    Numeracy Challenge Champions: Waiting List 2019

    Numeracy Challenge Champions

    This is a course for UNISON Union Learning Representatives.

    Numeracy Challenge Champions learn how to use different promotional materials from the National Numeracy Challenge to promote good Maths skills in the work place. You don’t have to be a maths expert, and you will not to be expected to teach maths.

    The workshop will enable you to:

    • Help others to see Maths as a valuable part of everyday life
    • Encourage people to use the Challenge online
    • Support people to use the challenge
    • Challenge the view that maths ability can’t be changed
    • Promote the challenge through leaflets, newsletters and in meetings
    • Run an introductory Numeracy Challenge workshop.

    Return to Learn: Waiting List 2019

    Return to Learn

     The Return to Learn course is designed for members who have been away from learning for some time. The runs one evening a week for 10 weeks and there is also a weekend overnight stay with your course group.

    On this course you will learn and develop skills to help you in everyday life and work.  You will learn a number of skills, including:

    • Confidence to express your opinion in group conversations
    • Helping your children with homework
    • Note-taking
    • Being able to present ideas to people
    • Problem solving
    • Thinking about and planning for your future

    There are no exams to take and the group has a supportive and relaxed atmosphere.

    Like the rest of our learning programme, this course is free and your travel costs will be paid for (your overnight stay, travel, accommodation and food will also be covered), we can even provide help with childcare/dependent costs.
