South Ribble Gets Serious About Stress

South Ribble UNISON branch, in association with the local authority, recently held a workshop around stress, its symptoms and what can be done to combat it. Over 20 Council employees attended the 2 hour workshop and discussed the definition of mental health and stress, the Equalities Act, stress in the media and next steps to combat the effects of stress.

The event was a great success, with learners able to talk about mental health issues freely and plan for the future. UNISON branch rep Mike Shaw was very pleased to have the event;

it is so important that we discuss mental health at work and home and I’m so glad that UNISON were able to provide this course and pay for some food aswell. People got so much out of it and are talking about it already – I hope this will be the beginning of lots of learning work with the branch and the council.”
