Regional Council passed a motion last week in support of UNISON members working as carers for Future Directions in Rochdale, who have voted overwhelmingly in favor of taking strike action over cuts to their pay and conditions.
The action, by 114 low paid UNISON members who support adults with disabilities, will take place on the bank holiday weekend (25-27 May). Future Directions took the contract on from Rochdale Council in October 2012, knowing that to make the contract viable they would need to save money. UNISON says it is wrong to make the savings by drastically slashing member’s pay.
A rally is to be held on the Butts in Rochdale Town Centre from 11 am and 1 pm on Saturday 25th May and branches are invited to attend to show their support for these worker
The Butts is a pedestrianised area and can be found to the right of Rochdale Town. Municipal parking is free in the Town Centre at weekends.
