North West UNISON Shares Learning Best Practice With East Midlands Region

Learning Organiser for the North West Steve Swift and Manchester ULR Lead Steve Lynch were invited by Regional Learning Development Organiser for East Midlands Gavin McCann to attend a ULR event in July to share best practice and let ULR’s know how they started and organised the breadth of learning activity in the region.

It was great to be asked, particularly as East Midlands region is regarded as a very busy learning region and has really good activity taking place. The energised ULRs who attended heard from Steve & Steve how Manchester’s UNISON-led learning project now has 62 ULRs all engaged in supporting learners and 2,700 Digital Champions; they also discussed how to engage and negotiate with employers to find a partnership using the UNISON courses and learning programmes.

Steve Lynch said “It’s great to be asked to share our best practice with another UNISON region and testament to our successful close learning working with Manchester City Council.” Steve Swift added “It is very flattering to attend this event and discuss some of the successes in the North West and the learning areas we’re leading on. The East Midlands region are doing excellent work here too and I’ve picked up some great tips for the future.”

Learning work continues this year for branches all over the North West, do contact your branch Education Officer for information or go to s.swift@unison.co.uk. We know that the learning going on in this region is down to the hard work you do and we really appreciate it – please keep up the excellent work!
