Families and Staff United Against Cuts at Calderstones

Staff and relatives of service users at Calderstones are to take part in a demonstration today against planned cuts in services and pay.

The rally follows the trust’s decision to close ‘peripheral homes’ and move service users into the community where staff and relatives fear they will not have the necessary support.

Manchester College Activists Take the Fight Over FE Funding to Westminster

FE-Rally-crowd-scene-300x128.jpgA delegation of UNISON activists from The Manchester College (TMC) joined Further Education lecturers and support staff from across the country in a lobby of Westminster yesterday to oppose the savage 24% cuts to adult education.  Hundreds of FE staff, including activists from UNISON, UCU and ATL, took part in a rally outside Westminster before lobbying politicians in the Houses of Parliament.

 GROWING THE UNION: INCREASING PARTICIPATION OF YOUNG WOMEN

 The North West Regional Women’s Conference is to be held on

Saturday 25th July 2015, 9.30/10am to 3.00pm.

at UNISON Regional Office, Arena Point, 1 Hunt’s Bank, Manchester M3 1UN

UNISON North West has an active and enthusiastic women’s group, but we always want more members to get involved.  Our conference will focus on increasing the participation of women – especially young women – in our union.  We will hear from a range of speakers from the NUS, a rape crisis centre and from within UNISON as we work to encourage women to be active in the union and to help make things better in our workplaces and communities.

Don’t Frack Lancs: Activities in Lancashire on Tuesday 23 June

Lancashire County Council is set to decide this month whether fracking can take place in the county.  Activities are planned on Tuesday 23 June to show public opposition to these plans.


“This Queen’s Speech does not match the priorities or wishes of people in the North West.”

Commenting on the Queen’s Speech, UNISON North West Regional Secretary Kevan Nelson said:

“Fewer than two out of five voters supported the Conservatives on May 7th, and this Queen’s Speech does not match the priorities or wishes of people in the North West.
