March on Saturday: Route around Manchester city centre confirmed

New Picture (6)The route for the anti-austerity march in Manchester on Saturday has been confirmed.  We assemble in Castlefield Arena at 11am and then depart at 11.30am.

Our route takes us up Rice Street and Liverpool Road to Deansgate, where we turn left and march towards the city centre.  We turn right onto John Dalton Street, past the Town Hall, and then right again on to Portland Street.  We make our way past Deansgate Locks before turning briefly onto Deansgate again, before returning down Liverpool Road and Rice Street back to the Castlefield Arena.  The route is about 2 miles in length.

At 12.30pm we will be back for the rally at the Castlefield Arena, where speakers will include Dave Prentis (UNISON) and Christine Blower (NUT).

There will be children’s activities and music and it should be an enjoyable event for everybody.  Bring your friends, families and colleagues, and we’ll send a clear message that we’re not prepared to accept permanent austerity.
