Join UNISON’s campaign to protect NHS unsocial hours payments

Unsocial Hours payments in the NHS are under attack by the Tories. These payments are given to staff who work night shifts and weekends, to recognise the incredible contribution they make to our NHS and the detrimental impact night-working has on their health.

Early in 2015, the Government asked the NHS Pay Review Body to give recommendations on ways unsocial hours pay could be cut, or removed together. This is part of the Tories’ vision for a ‘7 day NHS’.

UNISON believes that in reality, this is purely a cost-cutting exercise. In difficult economic times, many staff depend on their unsocial hours to make ends meet.

There is evidence that staff already hit by freezes are leaving the NHS and this move will only make things worse – damaging both staff and the patients they care for. Even if you are not currently affected you may be, if plans for a 365 day service across the NHS are implemented.

We can stop this assault on NHS staff, but we must work together.
