Future Directions UNISON members determined to continue fight against pay cuts

25 May 2013: A well attended rally in Rochdale Town Centre today was left in no doubt about the determination of over 110 care workers to continue their industrial dispute with Future Directions, a Community Interest Company, which has slashed the pay and conditions of its workforce. Local UNISON Branch Secretary Helen Harrison chaired the rally and pledged the union’s determination to press on with plans for strike action ‘even if we have to re-ballot our membership.’ This followed the employer’s successful application for a court injunction last night which led to a planned 3 day strike being called off. Other speakers included Andy Taylor, Future Directions UNISON steward, Regional Convenor Diane Kelly, Regional Secretary Kevan Nelson, Regional Labour Link Chair Angela Rayner and Andrea Woods UNISON convenor at Sefton social care company New Directions. Representatives of more than 10 North West UNISON branches attended the rally in solidarity with the Future Directions workers.
